Spelling

Last night while I was at work, Philip was teaching Amelia how to spell things. She is learning cat, dog, Mom, and Dad. So today she and I were talking about spelling and she asked how to spell Amelia. So I told her A-M-E-L and she threw her hands up in the air and yelled "OK that is enough!" I think she believes that all words should just be 3 letters and no more.

Amelia-isms

I was just looking through a notebook at work and found some funny things that Amelia has said in the past and thought I would share with everyone.

She and I were sitting on the couch one day and she asked "Can you teach me to make my feet touch the floor like yours?" She was genuinely upset when I said that she would just have to grow.

She used to call a Triceratops a Rhinosaurusnocerus

I once told her that girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. She got mad and said "I am not, I am spice only!" I think she is probably right.

One day while grocery shopping she said "I smell like a potato." I said "That is interesting" and she replied "and also a little disgusting."

She always used to say "You scared me out of crap!"

One day, just to boost my confidence, she told me "Mommy when you were my age, you used to ride on the backs of dinosaurs."

Just in case you thought that corn was grown on farms, according to Amelia corn comes from unicorns.

I am not = "I amn't"

While preparing her for Halloween, Philip taught her trick or treat, smell my feet. So when we went door to door, she told people "Trick or treat, smell my feet, and they are stinky"

Amelia's new word is "diriculous" instead of ridiculous.

I just thought these were pretty funny. I had forgotten about most, so I am glad I had them written down.

Trash Talking Amelia

Let me preface this by saying that during football season there is a lot of trash talking that goes on in our house. Which is what makes today so funny.

Today Philip and I were sitting on the couch next to each other while Amelia was sitting at the coffee table. She looked at Philip and said "Get out of my way sucker!" He asked who she was talking to and she looked him right in the eye and said "You, sucker."

I know that we should probably correct this before she goes to preschool but I was laughing to hard I could barely talk, let alone discipline. I guess the good news is we have until September for her to forget how to talk trash. The bad news is football starts again in September.

BFF

Amelia and I had a playdate today with our friends. Alessandra is Amelia's best friend. We met Kathryn, Alessandra, and Marco at the park to play since it was such a nice day. They spent about an hour playing on the swings and slides, then we got to take their dog for a walk. The kids spent that time running around the field. We had a great time! It was so nice to be able to go outside and play after being cooped up with cold and sickness for so long.

Grocery Shopping

Today Amelia and I headed to Walmart to pick up some much needed groceries. Amelia made it 3/4 of the way through the store before asking to walk. While walking she just starts throwing items in the cart, ice cream cones, strawberry syrup, raisin bread, etc... just like Philip does when he come with me. I told her "who are you, your dad?" She threw her hands up, all exasperated, and said "I know, who am I, my dad?" It was too funny!

Hopefully, my camera will be back soon from the Geek Squad and I can start putting up pictures again.

The Chavez Hospital

Today Amelia kept coming in the kitchen while I was cooking dinner asking for marshmallows. I told her that it was almost dinner and she can't eat marshmallows before dinner. Amelia insisted that she have them and told me it was because all her animals were sick and needed medicine. So I let her have cupcake papers with a few mini-marshmallows in them. When I finally went down to her room to check on her, she had about 15 stuffed animals lined up in front of her bed, each with their own cup of marshmallows. She told me that they all had a "coat". It took me a while, but she meant a cold. Apparently, marshmallows are the cure for a "coat". My camera is being repaired so I don't have a picture.

Story Time

One of Amelia's favorite things to do is to read books. Yesterday we set up her tent in the loft and it has become our favorite reading spot. First thing this morning, she gets me out of bed, forces me in the tent and we start to read. Keep in mind though, that the cat is with us and the dog is trying to lick the cat through the mesh entrance. By the way the tent is about 6 square feet big. So Amelia was reading a book about the Little Blue Engine and she told me the following story:

"Once upon a time there was a princess. She went everywhere she goes. Everyone else was a princess too. She went to the post office to pick up a quarter. And she lived happily ever after. The end."

Sweet Words

Today Amelia told me, "Mommy, you make my heart feel very nice."

Those are just words to warm my mommy heart.

First Trip to the Dentist

As everyone is aware, I am deathly afraid of the dentist. I would, in fact, like to have sedation dentistry for cleanings. So I was a little nervous taking Amelia to the dentist for the first time. We really lucked out and found the best dentist. He is a pediatric dentist, and while not in our neighborhood, totally worth the drive. The staff was so nice and made Amelia feel like getting your teeth cleaned was the equivalent to going to a birthday party (and we know how much Amelia likes birthday parties). Even the laxtex gloves smelled like spearmint. Amelia allowed them to count her teeth, polish them and even scrape the bottoms ones just a little bit. She freaked out when Dr. Josh wanted to paint her teeth with the sealant though. She didn't like the idea of having painted teeth. I think she thought they were using watercolors just like she has at home. I ended up bribing her with a trip to Chuck E Cheese.

Preschool

Well it is getting to be the time of year to think about registering for preschool. Amelia is very excited about it and talks about going to school nearly every day. She even wants to ride the school bus and if disappointed when I tell her that preschool does not have a school bus.

So today we went to First Presbyterian Church downtown to observe a class for a little while. It was just a great place. It is very colorful and fun. There are all kinds of play stations. Every week they focus on a new theme, this week was dinosaurs. They were making a dino habitat from paint, sand, clay, glue, rocks, etc... They, Miss Bradley, teacher was fantastic. I have heard great thing about programs that this church does and I was not disappointed. We will be registering Amelia there next week.

Fun at the Zoo

I love Colorado weather. Yesterday it was warm enough to go to the zoo, I didn't even have to wear a jacket. Amelia and I had a great time. The zoo was virtually empty, we love going in the winter for that exact reason. The tiger was pacing by the cage and growling, which was Amelia's favorite part. The new elephant is not on display yet, but hopefully soon. We finally got to see the otters swimming, which we haven't seen since the Rocky Mountain Wild opened. Amelia's favorite part of the zoo is always feeding the giraffes. The babies of 2 summers ago are nearly grown but luckily are still little enough to be recognized as babies and they still let you touch them without giving them a cracker.

ArtSports

Last week we had a playdate with our friends at ArtSports, the trampolineapolooza. Amelia had a great time with Alessandra and Marco. On the way out she made a new friend name Finnegan and held his hand all the way out. I don't know about that.
