Nina Talks

Nina said her first word this week, on Monday January 24th. She says Mama now. She says it when she wakes up, when I leave the room, or just to express general need to remedy an undesireable situation. Amelia's first word was Mama too, Philip says it is because I train them like circus animals to say it but that is fine with me because I get to here Mama, and there is not a better sound in the world.

Nina's Favorite Food

Nina eats all kind of things now. She likes squash, carrots, green beans, apples, pears, peaches, bananas, oatmeal/rice cereal with fruit, but her favorite food is sweet potatoes. She just goes crazy for them.

No Jacket Needed

It was nearly 65 degress today so we took full advantage and spent the morning at Cottonwood Creek Park. Nina got to go on the swings for the first time, and loved it, although you would be hard-pressed to find something that child doesn't love. Amelia made a friend and had a great time playing for nearly 2 hours. Then we walked along the trail for a bit and pet all the dogs. Amelia brought her own camera too so she took pictures of the dogs she met and the people flying a gigantic kite. We had such a fun day, despite me being sick with a cold.

She even rides in the stroller like a big girl now.

What Can Only Be Described As Eclectic

This is what happens when Amelia picks her own clothes. She definetely has a style all her own.

This was only a weekend outfit.

But she wore this one to school.

A Girl and Her Best Friend

This is why every child should have a dog.

Christmas in Cripple Creek

On Christmas afternoon we went to Cripple Creek for good food and good company. Everyone was very kind to bring presents for all the little girls, Sandy made some beautiful little stockings with a surprise in it (that only lasted about 2 days in Amelia's pocket, until it burned a hole right through), Alyssa even brought them some very nice and perfect presents for 3 little girls. Grandma Kitty, of course, had a new book for everyone, plus some college money, which I appreciate more than anything. We had a nice time. Dinner was delicious, Amelia ate about 3 servings of prime rib. Nina loved Rammie and I even got to eat with 2 hands for the first time in 5 months, that is the benefit of having so many Grandma hands around. It was the perfect ending to a perfect Christmas. I am glad it is all over though.

Christmas Morning

I guess 5-month-olds are more excited for Santa than 4-year-olds. Nina and I were up at 6 but Amelia slept until 8. It was a very nice morning. Amelia was most excited for her camera I think, oh and the pet's stockings. Nina was pretty much thrilled by the wrapping paper. Amelia finally got her much wanted Chia Pet from her daddy. She also got a couple of new games, and Olivia playset and a new Pillow Pet, it was a very prosporous Christmas for her. Nina got a high chair and several toys that make noise, since that is what she loves, even though it is what I hate. Philip bought me a very nice knife set and new set of pots and pans. We were very blessed this year and I am so thankful for all we have (especially my 2 beautiful girls).

Amelia picked a dog towel for Nina, she was very proud to get to buy Nina a present.

Christmas Eve

We had Christmas Eve with the Chavez family. It was a nice time. Amelia loves when Kayla is there. Now that Amelia can read, it was all we could do to stop her from finding and opening all her presents as soon as we got there. Amelia and Nina both got some very nice gifts (Philip and I too) and had a great time.
