Today Amelia had a field trip to the fire station. She has been talking about this field trip for at least a week, asking every day when she wakes up if it was the day to go to the fire station. She was so excited to meet "real firemen" and see the fire trucks up close. The firemen gave a great tour and I think it was everything Amelia had hoped. We got to see their bedroom, kitchen, exercise room. Then we got to watch a fireman slide down the pole. The kids got to sit in the fire engine and the fire truck, and yes there is a difference. The fire engine carries the water, the fire truck carries the tools and ladders. They got to watch a fireman get dressed in all his gear and then got Jr. Firefighter badges. It was probably the best field trip we have had so far.

All the kids loved to knock on the helmet once the fireman was in his gear.

The Zoo
The weather has finally decided to turn nice, when it is not too windy to be outside that is. We decided to go to the zoo last Friday, which turned out to be field trip day for most of the city. There was no less than 20 school buses there. So it was crowded but we had a great time as usual. Even Nina was interested in the animals this time. She loved the giraffes and the fish in the grizzly bear exhibit the most.

Half-Way Home
So for the last 4 days Philip and I have been building a giant wooden swingset for the girls. It is nearly 13 feet tall. It is very slow going, especially since I have to balance helping to build with taking care of 2 kids. It is times like these that I need a babysitter. Anyway, we are over halfway done now. We just have the safety rails, picnic table, rock wall, ladders, and swings to finish. And I dare say we have done a great job, it is definetely built to last!
Nina's New Favorite Food
Nina only likes to eat foods she can feed herself, it is a rare occasion that I can get her to eat baby food. It has been a struggle to find foods she can eat, you know without choking to death. She likes baked potatoes (regular and sweet), scrambled eggs, pancakes, and her absolute favorite is pasta.
Nature Center
Last week Amelia's class had a field trip to the Fountain Creek Nature Center. It is such a wonderful place and the kids loved it. Nina slept through most of the hike but she really like the puppet show they put on in the begining.
The girls found a ladybug, which is a huge attraction to little girls.
The guide told the kids a story of how Native Americans put starts in the cottonwood trees. If you break open a twig near a knot, there really is a star "imprinted" in the twig.
And 2 pictures of my beautiful blue-eyed girls.
